Grandson / K.Flay / Jack Kays Melting The Roxian Theatre

Last night at Mckees Rocks Roxian Theatre we caught three amazing act on Grandson’s “I love you, I’m Trying” tour.

Kicking off was Jack Kays with his unique blend of indie music that merges a little indie folk with a lot of punk for a nine song set that included not just the string-breaking tunes but he mixed in some acoustic tunes as well. Great energy, great sound and can’t wait to hear more from him!

Next up, the incredible K.Flay. Another musician who writes their own story. Opening with “The President Has a Sex Tape” was a brilliant way to start. The set list had everything from the Alt Nation favorites to a couple of unreleased tracks and even, swear to god, Blood in the Cut mashed with Bulls on Parade. It was simply incredible.

Then finally Grandson on to close the night. He had stage set that mirrored the look of the new album with camouflage, a few props of lamp posts and a park bench where Grandson sat in the dark to start the show. I love it when a musician brings a whole concept to their live show as he did. Nearly half the tracks he played were from his new album, “I love you, I’m trying” but he mixed in some of the favorites, breaking out “Dirty” just before K.Flay joined back in for a cover of X Ambassadors “Zen” and the throwback “Peaches” that they recorded together back in 2020. And the perfect ending… “Blood in the Water.”

Great sets from all three artists from start to finish. Hard, soft, emotional, angry, hopeful…the line-up is a little of everything and a whole lot of excellence. Luckily, there’s tons of dates left to catch them still.
